POSITION SUMMARY
This position involves delivering nutrition education programs and services for the regional Health Department. Key responsibilities include providing general nutrition counseling and education to individuals, groups, and local health department staff, assessing patients' nutritional status, and determining eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). The role also entails documenting nutrition care plans, identifying community resources that can assist patients, and collaborating with community agencies to address unmet nutritional needs for targeted populations. Additionally, the position involves promoting community nutrition programs and educational initiatives.
Successful candidates should have college-level coursework in human nutrition or related fields, a solid understanding of local health and nutrition programs, and strong organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. This role differs from a Nutritionist 1 position, which provides therapeutic counseling to high-risk clients, requires active registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, and may involve supervision of other staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, including 9 quarter hours in human nutrition, 4 quarter hours in human anatomy or physiology, and 4 quarter hours in education, psychology, or counseling.
Necessary Special Qualifications: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
